International Women in Maths Day 2022

The "International Women in Maths Day" on 12 May is a great opportunity to celebrate women in mathematics!

We are glad that 44 female mathematicians are part of Mathematics Münster and contribute to the success of our cluster. By the way: Five female professors have been newly appointed since Women in Maths Day 2021. Welcome Eva Viehmann, Ursula Ludwig, Anna Gusakova, Theresa Simon and Kristin Courtney! We will introduce them in more detail on our webpages in the next few weeks.

On this webpage you will  find insights into the work of some of our scientists, information about the Ada Lovelace Seminar on 13.05. and interesting links to films, events and articles about women in maths.

We raise our glasses to all women in maths around the world!

Video: "Words of Women in Mathematics in the Time of Corona"

This film originated from a group of mathematicians following informal conversations about their experiences during the Covid pandemic. It is a follow-up of the international film project "Faces of Women in Mathematics".

About the International Women in Maths Day

The day is a great opportunity for the mathematical community around the world to celebrate women in mathematics and make their achievements more visible. The aim is to inspire people and promote an open, welcoming and inclusive working environment for all.

May 12th is the date of birth of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first and so far only female winner of the Fields Medal. She died from cancer in 2017 at the early age of 40. Her beautiful and astonishing results and her life and career are an inspiration for everyone, women and men, to pursue their dreams in science. Her birthday was chosen to celebrate Women in Mathematics in her memory.
